Mayer Hawthorne's Debut Album is Out NOW On Stones Throw Records

Hell yes, he can. In an article published yesterday in the New York Times, writer Rob Hoerburger chronicles the Soul Revival, specifically Mayer Hawthorne, who has been previously mentioned on this site. (But he conspicuously leaves out one Ms. Sharon Jones from the ‘New Voices of Soul’ tab. Strange, and almost disrespectful). The kicker, though is the live performance included with the article. It’s a compelling in-studio take of Hawthorne and his guitar making sweet sweet soul, telling women to get up off their behinds and chase some men! (You hear? That’s how its done, women!) Little do you know but Mayer Hawthorne is one of the most talented multiinstrumentalists gigging today. He single-handedly recorded, produced, and played every instrument on the tracks that got him signed to Stones Throw Records, the wonderful record company you all know and love. His music has been described as retro, but new. It’s Smokey [Robinson], and J Dilla, all at the same time. His first full-fledged album, A Strange Arrangement, is out now.

And in case you forgot, watch his Incredible in-studio session for The New York Times HERE
