Thunder Chicken is the 2005 album of The Mighty ImperialsLadies and Gentlemen, Boys and Girls, and all the funky souls of the world,

I do apologize for my lack of posts lately. My work has gotten the better of me – typical University life. With that in mind, I have a present for you all. To kick start your Friday, here’s some Soul for your Soul Revival playlist, straight from the depths of Daptone Records. Dig The Mighty Imperials: the brain child of four SIXTEEN-YEAR-OLDS (makes me feel great about myself, at age 20) is this sole album, Thunder Chicken. Apparently the four kids skipped school to get this done, and called in a favor from Joseph Henry to give the vocals a mature edge. Sadly, however, the horns are all samples and are unidentified. Make no mistake though, this is straight, old-school New Orleans Funk, steeped in rhythmic grooves and thick organ. Think Booker T & The MG’s and Watts Studios, crossed with the never-ending pocket of James Brown, and you’d be pretty close to the sound these guys have. Enjoy Responsibly, preferably with friends:
