DJ-turned-Producer Freddie Joachim (Jo-ah-kim) arrived in my earspace by way of his early-2010 release Dust, a stunning instrumental tribute to Dert — whose beat tapes and albums have graced TNC pages many times over the years. The word that comes to mind in describing Joachim’s beats is “depth.” Stripped of gimmicks, and heavy on soul,  Joachim’s tracks layer in soft pianos, moaning hornlines and deep kicks for a warmth that parallels the sounds of vinyl. You can check out him out via his own blog (FreddieJoachim.com) or his BandCamp page, but here are a few choice selections including the just released single “Saturn” that boasts an absolutely righteous bass kick.
