Kanye and Jay-Z have finally released the long-awaited collaborative album, Watch The Throne, to mixed reviews. Some people say it’s not lyrically strong, others say the beats don’t sound polished, and still more say that it is the pinnacle of 21st century sample-based hip-hop. Personally, I think that Kanye stays real for once (especially on “New Day”), but that Jay-Z rehashes a lot of the same rhythmic patterns that have become tried and true for him. This album feels less about the lyrics than the crazy studio work that two masters can produce, and the only time the lyrics really stand out is when they start to trade lines like Jazz instrumentalists trade fours. That said, it’s hard to argue with Spike Jonze and a tricked out Maybach (that is now up for auction). This video screams old fashioned fun, and mixes old-school in-your-face close ups with, well, one of the coolest cars I’ve ever seen. Check the video below, and, for a great laugh, check out the purported-to-be-Ghostface review of the album here. Here’s a sample of his review of “Lift Off.” Enjoy them both!
This shit sounds like the anthem the fairies in Ferngully would use to go to war against evil humans to or some shit b. This shit is like Shia LeBeouf in song form yo. Lissenin to this shit is like havin ya ears penetrated by a million microscopic dicks namsayin. Shit sounds like niggas doin aerobics on a magical cloud of daisies. How many meadows did Kanye cartwheel across before he decided to make this beat? Seriously yo…. Jus how many lily pads did the nigga skip across the pond on before he got inspired to make some shit like this?
