I recently started working as an intern at Angelhouse Studios. Essentially I am an apprentice to a highly talented multi-instrumentalist named Drew Kapner (pictured on the right) who plays with a band called Kill Matriarch. They combine the eerie vocals and intense, often dark cryptic lyrics of their female lead singer Matriarch with heavy metal influenced experimental electronic rock. When I first heard their music I was simply amazed at their insane ability to mix electro rock, drum and bass, metal, and even dance music. Think Nine Inch Nails juxtaposed with a female lead vocalist… Yes, awesome. This is a really interesting band currently taking over the Los Angeles music scene and they are definitely pushing the boundaries of music. They have a show coming up March 19th at the Palladium Ball Room (SOUTH BY SOWHAT) in Dallas, TX along with Enter Shikari, Chiodos, Gatsby’s American Dream and Of Mice & Men click here for tickets. If you like intense live electro, rock, metal, DnB or Dubstep you will LOVE this band. Check out the vid below!

Also you can check out a remix they asked me to do of their song GUNZ here below:

TNC favorite Flying Lotus is awesome. He has had a partnership with Cartoon Network for years now and they’ve begun to do his music videos for him. This is so awesome, awful, awe-inspiring. Awe…nesstication. Just watch the video.

This one below is a collaboration with Flying Lotus and the animator Beeple for Fly Lo’s song Kill Your Coworkers. Dopeness.

Words I Never Said (W.I.N.S.)

Words I Never Said (W.I.N.S.)

Lupe Fiasco has done it once again. His social and political commentary in the past years has often been drenched in creative metaphors and dark parody but this time around Lupe comes straight up. He is one of the few mainstream artists right now speaking truth consistently. The first track gave me chills as I listened to his opinion on the Iraq War, Islam, the American ghettos, the economic crisis, the housing bubble bursting…SO MUCH. The lyrics are on point, and there is a beat where Jimi Hendrix’s Fire is sampled that is completely and utterly ridiculous. I just recommend you listen to this. Immediately.

With a rise in the popularity of dance music there is a resurgence of disco style songs. Although the string arragements, drum kits, rhythmic basslines and guitar licks have been replaced by synth stabs, drum machines and DAW’s the outcome is the same: moving bodies! So I have embarked on a remix project to connect the past to the present with CyKo at the Disco! I’ve recently started DJing and I’ve learned many new production techniques in the past couple months that are guaranteed to make you move. You can find mixes I’ve done here. The latest one is up now! I’ll also be doing a live remix set with extended versions in the future so look out for that :D

Here’s the first remix Donna Summer’s Summer Fever:

Rusko Woo Boost

by ESC on November 30, 2010

in Listen,Look

Recently I’ve been listening to strictly electronic music. And in the journey through the 1′s and 0′s I’ve discovered a very popular artist that goes by the name of Rusko. He does dubstep that borders on the line of sex with a speaker and the eargasm that explodes within your brain makes you want to… well orgasm. The video below’s mish mosh of colors and visual bombardment complement the music so well it makes for a multimedia orgy that rivals a Marina Ambramovich event.

Why Girl Talk is Dope

Why Girl Talk is Dope

Back on May 22, 2009 The Pseudonym wrote a post describing Girl Talk’s songs as “no more than compilations of several, thirty-second mashups” that often leave the audience “in a dizzying fury.” Saying that some of Girl Talk’s mixes are subpar while some are really good. And honestly I agree completely: alot of his mixes [...]

Flying Lotus Pattern+Grid World

On September 21st the prolific producer known as Flying Lotus released his new EP called Pattern+Grid World. The EP lives up to its name: it sounds like the music a Martian Mario Brothers game would boast. If Martians existed and had evolved enough to develop dope video games. Coming after a couple months of Flying [...]
